Back in Jacksonville. Clay saw Dr. Hammond today and got labs drawn. His white blood cell (WBC) count is a little high (30 – should be closer to 10) but Dr. Hammond said it is probably over-compensation from the shots they gave him to boost the WBC production – the shots worked “too good”. Dr was not concerned…so we are not concerned!
We also found out that the involvement of the Lymphoma in Clay’s bone marrow was at 90%. Which surprised the Dr. because when Clay first came in on January 7 for the initial appointment, his labs did not look horrible. So apparently he has really strong bone marrow to have the 10% that was not cancer be able to produce enough platelets and WBC to be in the normal range.
Awesome appointment – the Dr was happy that Clay looks as good as he does – I don’t think he expected him to look so much better. He also basically confirmed that if we had not come to get treatment when we did, Clay would not be with us right now. Very sobering.
Tonight Clay felt well enough to walk across the street from our hotel and get some delicious pizza at V’s Pizza. Tomorrow is outpatient Rituximab then back in the hospital for the 5 days of Cycle 2. We are praying that all goes well tomorrow and that the 5 days of inpatient treatment goes really well. The girls have a dance competition here in Jacksonville this weekend, so please pray for Maggie that she makes it over with Grace, Marianne and Avery without losing her mind on Friday! 😬
